If you need a small easy to control belt sander this is it works great, set the tracking according to the directions and have had no problems, it may get warm but is not uncomfortable, but I have only used it for a few minutes at a time.
Light and easy to handle. I should have bought this long time ago. It's one of the most useful tools I own for woodworking.
we only do interior trim & install kitchen's so for 8 to 12 hour a day we use this hard. but the porter-cable is lite enough you can use it one handed. great tool using it for about 2 months now , it work great never wood have expected this little sander to have this much power. I had RYOBI BE-321 Type-2 3x21 belt sander for 10 to 15 years work great.
It would be a 5 star sander, but I don't feel that's justified with the heat issue. I suppose simply putting on some gloves would work, but, I've never seen another sander get so hot so quickly. I would buy it again and I love using it. This is a very fine belt sander and much less fatiguing to use than it's larger counterparts. I wouldn't fault it in any way other than the sucker gets hot enough to be uncomfortable to use.
Being from Porter Cable I suspect it will be tough to wear out as well. For cleaning up large areas I would still use a full-sized belt or random-orbital sander, but for the small stuff in tight areas this thing is unbeatable. It does get pretty warm after several minutes, but this is a minor gripe.
We used a combination of power and hand planers for fairing the framework, but had concerns about hitting metal fasteners buried in the woodwork. I have not been disappointed. I bought this sander when I was halfway through a boat-building project earlier this year.
It has plenty of power and did everything we asked of it, but its small size was nice for fine work and when I had to lie on my back and clean up some stuff under the deck. Highly recommended. A full-sized belt sander was ruled out due to its bulk and aggressiveness.
I had seen this sander at the Porter Cable booth at the local woodworking show and finally broke down and bought one through Amazon.
